Today’s poem is part of a special launch schedule during National Poetry Month from April 1—30, 2024. I’ll be posting a new poem daily for 30 days, which will be sent out to all subscribers as a summary on April 30 and otherwise can be viewed for free in the archives here. Thank you for being here!
“PATIO”
That kaleidoscope of colours you thought were real were just a thousand shades of grey dressed in better marketing and bows, you pull at one end the whole thing unravels and not the way you wanted it to like the fray on the carpet the cats love a burst of confetti and violence filtering itself, a prism disguised as a mirror, on mirrors, in a funhouse wanting so much to be as real as the stirred air making its way over every tiny atom, resolute as you sit on the patio waiting for the absoluteness of nothing.
P.S.
I’m catching up today! The last week has been a whirlwind as we get ready to move, after waiting for our home for over three years. There’s something about writing a poem every day for 30 days. When I publish them it feels like such a process of letting go.
